Who should plan visiting Chopta in summers?

1) The Char-Dham Yatris:

Chopta is one of the stoppages of the Char-Dham or Do-Dham Yatris. The sacred yatra starts in April/May and ends in October/November. Of the four destinations, the Kedarnath & Badrinath (Do-Dham)  are the most visited ones. Chopta falls in between the route of Kedarnath & Badrinath (National Highway-107A.) Chopta also consists of Tungnath Mahadev Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world (3, 680metres.) You can reach the temple after a hike of 3.5km from Chopta. The yatris prefer visiting Tungnath too during their journey towards Badrinath from Kedarnath. Hence, they generally take an overnight break at Chopta.

2) People planning for family vacations:

May & June are the most preferred for a family trip to Chopta. One of the reasons is the summer vacation of the school-going children. Chopta has sufficient facilities for people planning to travel with their families. Ever since the advent of Covid-19, the valley has also become a choice of families who plan to visit here for ‘long stays.’ Some hotels in Chopta also offer special packages for families during the summers. 3) Trekkers :

The Chopta & Kedar Valley consists of numerous small and long treks. Some of them are the Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar, Bisuri Tal, Rohini Bugyal, DeoriaTal & Syalmi Bugyal treks. Interestingly, Chopta is situated close to most of these treks and hence visited along with these destinations. If you are a trekker & plan visiting Chopta in summers, we also recommend trekking to the ‘Panch Kedars.’

The Chandrashila peak, located right above the Tungnath temple, is a must-visit place while you are in Chopta. We recommend you to visit here early in the morning to enjoy the sunrise from the summit. However, always take a guide with you while trekking early-morning. The trail after Tungnath is not visible sometimes, and you may find it difficult to reach the top.
